I find this song difficult to listen too, as it brings back such messed up and broken memories. But other than that, it is a lovely song. A break up song about a man reminiscing about what he had with this woman, and trying to explain to her that whatever mistake he had done that resulted them breaking up in the first place 'seemed like a good idea at the time', if we interpret it in a different way, it signifies that the relationship wasn't able to be revived anyway, as she had lost interest and perhaps they didn't last in the long run, but for the short amount of time that they were together, they actually enjoyed each others company.
