Always was curious as to the meaning of "Riding The Nightingale" so just wondering what others think. I just thought it means, internally withdrawing into one's own self and being on your own and going over things in a somewhat "dark" manner. rethinking through things, by either talking out loud when no one else is present and then distancing yourself from those very thoughts that you have evoked! In the last verse when he sings "Who's riding on my nightingale", he's not wanting to know if anyone is, he is rather asking the listener if you are also doing the same thing, being solitary or distancing yourself from the hurt of reality! Not wanting to face the truth about a situation, where you would rather live in the dark about it all! You are trying also to keep others from prying into your emotions, hense the lyrics "better run for cover babe, better hide"...you are sending out a warning not to come to close as coz you don't want anyone to see you in this dark time of your life! The nightingale itself always sings in the night, when it's at its darkest, it does not wait to see the dawn to tell his story, as it is lost in the noise of the daylight!
