Hit That Jive Jack Lyrics

Jive was slang for marijuana.

Hit means 'hide'. This transformation could have happened in many ways,

On the street. You don't want to be saying 'hide the marijuana' because the police might hear. Hide becomes hid becomes 'hit'. It might have started with "When I saw the cop, I hid that jive", or "when I saw the cop I hit that jive, jack".

In the songwriting studio. It might have been a transformation from "hid that jive", used on the street, to 'hit in the song, because it sounds better in the song.

Maybe the only way to know for sure is to ask the songwriter.

My Opinion

@tracym0q sadly, Nat King Cole, the performer of this song (not sure if he was the writer) has been dead since 1965 so there is little chance any one from the era is alive today.
