This has been my favorite song at different times, but I'd never really thought too deeply about the words. I just figured that the "there" meant heaven or some place like that, but the "Ain't no smilin' faces" was always confusing for a moment if I noticed it. I finally realized that it's "Ain't no smilin' faceslyin' to the races," meaning "Ain't no smiling faces lying like crazy" in a "Smiling Faces Sometimes" kind of way (see song by the Undisputed Truth). And I'm loving this song all over again because that one line just about sums up what heaven would be to me. That and the song is pretty close to heaven itself. :)
