I get the impression that this song is about social media, Myspace and Facebook etc. Both of which were quickly becoming very popular at the time. Social media had allowed us to reconnect with our past friends and communicate in a way we couldn't before. But at the same time it had made us far more isolated while at the same time we fill it's walls with our thoughts, trying to reach out for a connection with somebody out there that is ultimately not going to be real or completely fake, exposing our vulnerabilities in the process.
I think that the sparrows wings breaking represents the actual individual breaking down from the depression created by the isolation social media has caused the individual. Resulting misanthropy and apathy within the individual.
