Leave Me Alone Lyrics

This song really points out how versatile Claire's voice was. There's more variety in this one song that on most of the rest of the album—and it all feeds together to great effect. She starts off with an exaggerated version of the childish singing she uses on half the album, but quickly soars into her take on the Siouxsie-style howl of despair. Then when she comes back to the little-girl talk-singing, it sounds creepy (perfectly complementing the music). And then she breaks out a Kristin Hersh-style country-girl growl, but when she comes back to that later, it's more like a monster-in-the-closet growl.

Since "Beckoning Strings" doesn't have lyrics here, and I can't find the lyrics sheet to the album, I'll just add a comment here. That's the other song with the most variety—but in retrospect, it's almost hard to notice, because the bass and the backing vocals are so late-80s 4AD indie rock (almost a decade early).
