We are taught ideas from a young age. It takes life experience and exposure to other ideas and facts to shake some of the falsehoods off. It's disappointing in a way (to Lennon) to find out Jesus isn't going to help any, after being taught about rewards and justice and faith. It's also possible that he meant he found out that jesus isn't real, and now he can cry out to people, he discovered the truth, saying the next (tag) line, "I found out!'
