I think I remember seeing in an interview many many years ago that Joker pretty much wrote this song about the life he left behind. He was heading down a hateful path towards self-destruction. Yet he was able to "wake up" before it was too late. I cannot remember the trigger event that did it for him, but I think that was "the sign." I know what's in the video. But that story has nothing to do with the events that inspired the song.
