May I differ?

Joel Chapter 2, verse 28 "And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy; your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions"

Acts, 2:17 "In the last days, God says, I will pour out my spirit on all people.Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams"

I think he was on meth while working there and had a paranoid hallucination (something quite common when on meth.. you see people trying to kill you, to invade and shit). The I-lyric might have shot nothing or even an innocent person. He is thunderstruck by it, by such a strength this hallucination had that it had him shooting in despair. And then (with the ironic subtle bible-referenced humour from the songwriter) he absurdly sees it as a sign from God (taking reference from the verses cited above) and it make him fear the lord again and the end of the days that is why he goes to the church and prays and prays. He is then connected to the faith again and starts to pray at his window (yep, this is a thing) constantly, maybe everyday. Humidity is the only thing in the world that can cause rust and as we know he does not live in a humid place so it must come from the breath of his murmurs due to the constant praying at the window. (he does not know that but you, reader, do).

I know it's an odd interpretation and might be wrong but it is just how I saw the song since the first time I listened.

My Interpretation

@vinnícius Oh, I forgot to mention about the "we will recognize each other and see ourselves for the first time the way we really are" as you can see this part is not in the bible verses mentioned above. I see as either one of these options: the episode struck him as an insight into his true nature (protecting the store even if it means killing someone) or maybe, and this was my first impression, the raging burglar version of the innocent person who entered the store is seen as the true self of this person (for the hallucination is...
