I thknk the the first verse is about someone finally getting back into a life for themselves after ... (a bad romance, breakup or such) and now being able to 'stand straight again'.
The second verse is about that person (later) being ready to get into a relationship again, neding a friend.
So n both cases I think this about a positive thing. first: freedom, no longer being dependent, despondent etc, secondly abel to get back into a ligfe shared with someone else
