This song reminds me so much of The Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows." It is rhythmically cyclical and seems to speak to some very profound concepts. I'm a Buddhist, so I see so many paraboles to specifically Buddhist concepts. Like "When do you/we really get to go (home)." We spend so much of our lives searching for ourselves, and a time/place to feel truly at peace. But first "you/we must go walking on your/our own" to discover this completely personal truth/no one else can tell you what your own home, or truth, is, you have to find that out yourself. Once we've done that, we stop searching in external places/concepts, we start to realize there is no other place than here and our own experience (it is not out there somewhere, it is all right here, in us, in this present moment), hence "Maybe then we already are home." Once we realize this, we can be at peace just with how things are and "Row row row your/our boat(s) gently down the stream," with no contest. We can go on with our lives lightheartedly and with a sense of flow. It is no longer a situation of fighting upstream.
All of Alexi's songs on "Time without Consequence" are tremendously moving to me. Sometimes, I just listen to this album and bawl. I tend to be a very logical person, so this album is such an aid in bringing down those logical walls to help me get in touch with my emotional side. Honestly, it feeds my soul. <3
