I believe this song is about people not being able to hold themselves above water because of stresses in life, and other reasons (e.g. home troubles, school troubles, etc.), and this is reinforced by the music video, when the two actors go to the beach, and the woman disappears under a wave. She can't hold herself above the water (the term; 'hold her/himself above water', a euphemism for; not being able to keep yourself up from the troubles). The male (presumably her boyfriend), finds her under the water, and drags her over to the shore.
(We stand up tall, even in the dark. Never forget we are a Lighthouse burning.) This is the male being a 'lighthouse' for the female (aka. a beacon of hope), taking her to the hospital, and then she awakes, to find the male sitting next to her bed.
This is personally my favourite song from their new album, out of everything in the world.
