Actually, I think the song's about how Humans are easy to change and manipulate at such a young age, how everything around them shapes them for the future, forcefully or not. The Paper Stars are literally stars made of paper, specifically those gold stickers a child sometimes gets for behaving. Conditional rewarding shapes a young child to do whatever for that star again, and eventually carrying over to a point where they just think the thing they did to earn it is normal. If this was the case, the "Liar" from the chorus would be the giver of the paper stars, a parental figure or teacher.

I don't understand how the words from "So let us die -" to "- try tonight." connect to this theory, that's the only problem.
