Cover art for Pomp And Pride lyrics by Toots And The Maytals

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree based on the overall meaning and lyrics of the song. He's singing about the Rastafarian ethos - not taking yourself too seriously, always looking for the positive. It's an admonition not to be too proud of yourself, not to take things so seriously. Irie! I think the song is speaking to the world ("Everybody"), not three specific women. "Everybody's just crying sighing dying to see the light. And when they see it, they say it's not bright. Can this be right?"

But in the end, we take out of all art what we want. And this is one of the best feel-good happy tunes ever written IMO.

Thank you for clarifying this. On so many sites, an early interpretation of the lyrics is obviously copied and pasted. Rather than "Have your pomps and pride" it is "Come down off your pomps and pride".
