THIS NOT A SUCIDE NOR A DRUG SONG, HERE IS WHY:
It's not surprising to me that many people on here talk about considering this song to an 'ode' to drugs or yet better a suicide themed song which is NOT.
It's very psychedelic and improvisational song for a fact, has a lot themes inside and you can explain some verses in different way and it might contain even references to drugs or suicide.
For instance the first strophe talks about and one would be surprised about a TAMPON ! and then later the next one is about a late period: "She's only been five months late" Get it ?
Then there is some weird stuff going on, what could be talk about a failing relationship ???
Anyways the strophe where they joke about GIT: the Hollywood-based Guitar Institute of Technology, later Geeks with Charvels... actually gives the song its tite. The so called age of grunge preceded a decade of 80's where hair metal was the mainstream rock genre with dudes dressed like girls, with make up, hair spray (I don't have to get into more details, do i ?) using Charvel guitars (a brand made famous during this period). Hence there is a lot of sarcasm in this song, because after grunge, the hair metal scene basically disappeared and the bands which were once famous, started to disband and were being dropped by major record labels or even worse started to release GRUNGE ALBUMS !
So the last few verses, strophes... call them what you like, talk definitely about Hollywood, and how fake its being presented to the public, attributes towards which Cobain felt totally alienated to. He was the opposite.
