This is the story of an unbeliever.
The song can be divided in 3 parts:
1- The unbeliever denounces a priest/false prophet, who takes advantage of his devoted followers.

2- The unbeliever isolates himself from this corrupted community, believing it is the right thing to do. However, there is one problem with his choice: his beloved one chooses not to follow him. Thus, he lives a lonely, sorrowful life and waits for his death.
"I can't remember the sun upon my skin... ...there is a need to sever myself away from happiness"
3- The unbeliever laments his existence. He neither found peace within the community nor without. There's no hope in his life, and he is bound to suffer.
"Still no drifting sun... ...only circles on the water"
