Heh, a lot to think about here. So I need to tell everyone reading this that I hate telling people what to think and babbling, and the following is nothing but. However, let me throw this out here before I start yapping: One song doesn't mean KMFDM has sold out and is over. You can continue being a fan, even if you don't enjoy or agree with this particular song.
On the other hand, maybe it's worth talking about, since you are looking up the song to get the lowdown on its meaning.
Alright, so Pussy Riot goes to a church in Russia, performs a "prayer" to get rid of Vladimir Putin, and gets kicked out and thrown in jail.
If they'd go in the church and prayed like ordinary people, perhaps they wouldn't have been thrown out or jailed.
You can argue that they needed to do this, to make a point. Certainly, you have some balls, so to speak, if you do something that makes headlines, it generates awareness. Protesters love awareness.
Was this a GOOD thing to do? Well, I'll admit I don't like the modern feminism because it's irrational. And it's sexist. I like irrationality as much as anyone else, but if you're trying to make serious social progress, maybe you should express your opinions in more accessible ways. Wouldn't it be cool if you instead lurked in the congregation for a while and somehow convinced all the nuns that that the patriarchy needs to be overturned and dismantled? That sounds more effective to me. The message would spread like a disease.
More to the point, does this mean KMFDM has sold out? Eh, they've always tended toward lefty politics, although this is more lefty than normal. Despite all the questions/concerns/misgivings a KMFDM fan might have about this track one song out of a gigantic catalog won't kill ya. I bet if I really analyze songs from Symbols or Angst I'd find things I can't relate to or disagree with. That's just normal. Nobody is going to see eye to eye on EVERYTHING.
