Although I think the song could be about a broken relationship, I feel it's more so about the unspoken communication between God and a person struggling to get through life. I feel as if the main chorus is God speaking to the person.. "Every breath you take, I watch you slip away.." They feel as if God has left them and see no hope. "If my soul was torn would you help? Would you try and fix me?"
