It seems to me to be a story of a soldier in the army of a totalitarian Regime. He is forced to commit many atrocities for them and he has become numb to it. he tries to tell himself that it is justified "Lash your tongue of bane Carry me to nowhere Mental holocaust Battle never ends Lie! Mask the pain Of a child who's forsaken Lie! To myself Praise the new regime" It also points to a former Regime that May very well have been "Good guys" (I don't know how else to word this. Lol) He knows what he is doing is wrong but he complies out of fear."Question all you trust. Buy into the fear." "I left me long ago" seems to point that he has given up trying to fight it. Whether he likes it or not it has become a part of him. "There's nothing here for free Lost who I want to be My serpent blood can strike so cold On any given day I'll take it all away Another thought I can't control" Is him describing how he has become cold blooded and remorseless in the name of "The Regime"

"No home to call my own No finding someone new No one to break the fall No one to see me through No name to carry on No promise for today No one to hear the call No tattered flag to raise" Points to This Soldier acknowledging that He is lost. He has given up all that he cares for- out of fear of losing it to "The Regime"
