No Angel Lyrics

This is a truly beautiful song that I think is very relatable. I believe the song to be about a relationship that is on the verge of breaking.

'Remember once the things you told me And how the tears ran from my eyes They didn't fall because it hurt me I just hate to see you cry Sometimes I wish we could be strangers So I didn't have to know your pain But if I kept myself from danger This emptiness would feel the same"

This first verse is talking about how he had told her about his issues with their relationship, and she was upset to see him hurting. She wishes sometimes that they had never met, but then she would feel a different kind of loneliness, not the one caused by their distance in the relationship, but one caused by the lack of being with him.

"I ain't no angel, I never was But I never hurt you, it's not my fault You see those egg shells, they're broken up A million pieces, thrown out across the ground"

In the chorus she is admitting that she never made their relationship easy, but she is not who he should be blaming for their brokenness. The eggshells represent how fragile they are and how they feel like, broken into a million pieces.

"Did you ever really love her Or was it that you feared letting go You should have known that you could trust her But you pretend like I don't know"

This verse talks about how because of their relationship issues, he is cheating on her and she is aware, and he is doing it to get her attention, which is the fear of letting go and not really loving "her". This girl actually loves him, but he still really loves the girl who is singing the song.

"I want to tell you that I'm sorry But that's not for me to say You can have my heart, my soul, my body If you can promise not to go away"

This last part is her saying that she will not apologize when she didn't do anything, but she is still deeply in love with him and doesn't want to leave him.

My Interpretation
