Here it would seem Chris is trying to say that we as humans are so base in nature, and we are not unlike animals. Something to be rounded up or funneled into some cage. And we're in such a scurry that we are "climbing" over eachother, like a disaster.

Chris now speaks personally, saying he is no different, and that he looks for an answer, just like the person he's talking to. Like a human being sometimes he feels like he already has the right one.

Like some sort of skittish animal, at the first sign of a problem he ran away, fearful to face it head on most likely because he made a mistake in his relationship with this girl who is now saying "Now off you go"
The chorus that comes next is saying "If you're gonna go, go now" again, the girl speaking to Chris. The "I forgot to tell you how" is most like there to remind us the confusion she is probably feeling right now.
The next verse speaks about what Chris is probably feeling after he left her. People not understanding the situation, making him feel defenseless because he cannot explain it. Making him feel base, animal. Of course he says to them, watch your mouth.

The song escalates as Chris returns to her, giving her all his excuses in some effort to save what was left however in this case it is too late, he missed his chance.
After the chorus repeats again with her telling him to go, we see the downward spiral Chris falls into during the aftermath of his this whole breakup. This is when he truly realizes that ultimately as human beings we are still animals. We act out of instinct even though it may not be right. Sometimes we run when we're scared. We are fallible and make mistakes. The long repetition of "Crumble and fall like an animal" explains his feeling of failure and descent into depression.
A truly incredible song that I think we can all relate to in some way. This was of course my interpretation and if any of you feel differently then that is okay. In fact that is one of the reasons I love Coldplay, all of their songs are profound, and many of them are abstract. A song that can have multiple meanings is truly art.
