Lyric discussion by Whiterookdown

As per the other comment this could be sexually experience veiled in the band's signature (and beloved) poetic symbolism. But my first thought upon reading the lyrics against the music is it reminds me of the atomic bomb. Maybe it is a poetic commentary on war and warfare. The imagery of burning a shadow into the wall echoes the aftermath of the nuclear bomb. Also the repetition of twighlight be sweet, because of the epic flash from a detonation... "crash of dawn"... The mention of "these sins we share" of "this place we cannot speak". The final lines are confounding, as well. I don't fully understand. But it conveys a sort of panicked hopeless resignation to destructive fate. "Split down on me" could be a reference to how nukes are detonated a few thousand feet above ground to cause maximum destruction. Maybe that is where the chills we get from hearing this are originating. The destruction that humanity has already unleashed upon itself has caused indelible lacerations on our greater consciousness. In these times we instinctively distrust others because our combined consciousness is reeling from its own self destruction.
