Can anybody tell me what it is to 'Shut Down'? Being a 46 year old English man who was born on the north side of 1967 and who's only knowledge of the height of custom car cool is to either lower a car, put flames up the side or to stick a UV light under the bottom.......Is Shutting down when hot rodsters raise and lower there cars on the hydraulic suspension to show off?
@BarnabyHughes
Shutting down is not something someone would do to themselves, being "Shut Down" is drag racing slang for getting beat badly. "Now I shut you down", conversely means that I beat you in the race. Most people misunderstand the lyrics as "The Super Stock Dodge is winding out in low", but the actual lyrics are, "The Super Stock DART is winding out in low". In the song it's mentioned that "My Stingray's wide, the slicks are starting to spin", that means he lost traction.

Now in my humble opinion,...
Now in my humble opinion, in a drag race between a 1963 Fuelie Stingray and a 1963 Super Stock Dart, the cars are pretty evenly matched, so typically it comes down to driver skill. The only advantage the Stingray had was that it had slicks to improve it's traction...however as soon as the slicks started to spin, the race was over the Dart pulled a half of a car length and banning any other errors that's how the race ended. The Dart wins with a 13:44 second 1/4 mile time, while the Stingray ran a 14:01 because of the tire spin.

@BarnabyHughes Shutting down IS something someone would do to themselves if they were badly beaten in order to save wear and tear on the engine.
