I actually don't think this is about an amorous relationship, I see it as being a song from mother to child. It's about unconditional love through all phases of that mother-son relationship as the child grows up–making her feel alone in the daytime to me is going to school after those tender years of bonding. Naturally as we grow up we lie to our parents and inevitably almost everyone gets in that one argument ending in "I HATE YOU!" Very simple yet sweet.
