this is just my theory but i think this song is about a witch being burned at the stake. it sounds like a prayer/spell to bind herself to the tree(s) so that she will never die. the 'i've love you for too long' part could possibly tie into this theory if her lover turned her in. i heard there were cases of witches during the salem witch trials who were burned at the stake for supposedly casting love spells on married men. this could possibly be about one of those cases.
