Edgard Allan Poe's the Raven interpretation, this poem is about a man who's lost his maiden and is drowning in sadness. He passes his night reading, trying to cope with his feeling of emptyness and pain of loss. Truth is, he is goin insane for the loss of the maiden... As he hears the ticking sound, he opens the window to see the Raven and puts all the feelings he was trying to supress out, in a unreal conversation with the black bird. It's a poem about the manifestation of our painful feelings, manifested in a man who's lost his beloved maiden. No matter how he flees the feeling, evertually it comes to the surface, even if it's in an unreal conversation with a bird - that, for his sick soul, seems a prophet, or somewhat a being that knows about what comes after death. Actually, it might've been a prophetic bird. That's for you to judge.
