Here's my thoughts on the song.

Clearly, the song is about someone who's been damaged from a bad relationship, she's suffering with heartbreak from "Jon-jon", the guy who was the centre of "last years catastrophic love affair". She recognises now that the relationship wasn't the greatest, probably more or less based on sex. "We're rats at cupid's table", what they have, or had, wasn't love or anything approaching it.

She's gone through the break up, and has vented her frustration at the whole ordeal, she wrote "her epistles" on how she felt about it, him. As much as she would like to think she's past it all, she really isn't. This is made clear in the third verse. She sees everyone as a faker, a user, "lady birds and pirate cowboys made up conversing", there's no one genuine in this world. She's isolated herself, her heart from these people. "Frozen hearts leave see through scarring, no one needs to know unless you tell". She's hidden her heart from view of everyone, to the the others she comes off cold, mean, bitter.

My interpretation of the words "Blue Headlights" is that it means to be outwardly and obviously upset, miserable, heartbroken. Blue, a cold colour, but also meaning here I think the state of being "blue". Headlights, well, they act to project and illuminate, in this sense projecting to the world that she is "blue", she's depressed, upset, heartbroken.

She's optimistic in the fact she hopes she's not the only one feeling this way, that she's not the only one with "blue headlights". She feels that these hurt people are the only genuine souls left, because they still feel their hurt.

The last few lines, I can take two ways.

Come on ladies, take your love to town. Pick it up boys, take your love to town. Everybody, take your love to town.

The first is quite a bleak outlook, putting a happy face on things, making to the world that you're happy, full of love. Go out, take your love, find a partner, the cycle of hurt and heartbreak repeating. Given the other songs off the album, like Impossible and Hard Rain, I think I lean toward this more, the whole album is about heartbreak and relationships breaking up, the memories and feelings that go with that.

The other way I see these lines is to work on yourself, to become healed and really go "to town" on your love. To love in the best way that you can do, it's a message about not being jerks in love to people, that everyone should love to the best they can.
