So the first part I outlined with stars I assume that when the speaker is talking about finding "something I could rest my hands on" to be a result of being physically tired or is implying that he needs someone to talk to. Then in the second paragraph/ stanza the speaker reveals that it is about a person when they "wait for you creeping silently" which gives off the impression that he has a significant other until the he reveals "I can't keep you right beside me all my days in the sun". What I get from this so far is that the speaker still cares/ wants to talk to this someone without continuing the relationship he once had with her.. There's still an emotional connection but it's obviously not enough to reunite them once again Continuing on with the third paragraph, the speaker asks a series of questions one being, "Did they warn you off dissection?" Which I safely assumed was a way of the speaker clarifying that him and his "lover" we're no more. I think the speaker chooses to use "dissection" maybe to discreetly explain how they parted. By this I mean when you dissect something, it's taken apart; the objects originally present together are no longer a pair and are separate. From this comes "How, what, why, when" implying that she might have left him without giving an explanation as to why she decided to leave. From this I also believe the line " I can't keep you right behind me..." To be another way to express his how sad he is about being left; he makes it clear he cares and wants to talk and see her but not escalate it into being anything he can get hurt from. Better not allow the relationship end the same way if they dated again? Finally the fifth chapter he reveals how it is between them two. "How I want Olive to know (name given clarifies it's not about a turtle or anything about turtle island) That inside me she'll always grow. In all colors and prizes you will always remain." No matter what happens or how she changes, the speaker will always care about this girl, regardless of how she might have hurt him. Turtle Island is just an extended metaphor of the situation itself. The speaker isn't really talking about an island or animals, he's relating them to his situation because the idea of it is beautiful to him just like his lover is to him as well. So basically he wants to let her know specifically that he will always care for her even through all the things they've been through. A part of them will always remain in one another
