I never saw this as an actually happy song. The beat and chords are very giddy, but I thought this song was about being suicidal. Something has come back from his past that has hurt him and ruined his current life. when he says "Tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life" I believed he was talking about taking the weight off of his shoulders by killing himself.
