The Spider Lyrics

I'm pretty sure it's a poem from either someone deeply unhappy, or dead and looking down from wherever at the state of the world and the negativity in it. They aren't thinking rationally (or are, whichever way you look at it) but it's their ultimate thoughts on life.

He relates to how he is feeling to being a spider down a drain. It doesn't want to die, and is struggling to live and in pain, and he says to being in pain like the spider. There's changes from I want you to love me like i love you to I hate me and I hate me and I hate you to - almost wanting to be something but ultimately hating it, and this shows his distorted thinking. He's not happy, and is confused at the state of the world. We fight anyway, even though stars shine.

It ends on "as I go down the drain" - this means he has lost, and something, whether that's death, or depression, or insanity, has happened to him. Earlier in the song he mentions he won't know what's happening with the listener, and that's because he's too distracted by his own thoughts which ultimately lead to him "going down the drain"

Either way it's deep, it certainly covers the hate in this world and why he doesn't understand it when we are all just people - or spiders - in the same boat, struggling to live. Unfortunately it doesn't end up well for him thinking this way.
