I think that its a dream kind of song. At the beginning, he is trapped inside and blows a hole in the sky. The crow that comes in is his inspiration on HOW TO GET OUT. He builds a ladder to the hole and escapes...but he stretches the strings over the hole (the hole in the sky is the hole int he guitar) to keep the crow (his inspiration) locked inside...so he remember where he has been. When he plays the guitar, it reminds him of that place he came from..that dark time trapped inside.
