I find this to be a beautiful sad song, one of my fav electronic pieces. I still dont know if my interpretation is even close, but I think the writer was not a popular kid, and wanted to be friends with a certain girl. He tried, but was treated cold, (with sharp edges). He heard or saw her and her sisters play, and wanted to be part of the fun. Appears years later he tried to write her, and to no avail. I think the black tin box is a metaphor for the house he was confined to, inside looking out, wanting to play with the kids (especially one girl). But something kept him inside his black tin box, not sure if it was shyness, parents, etc.
