Love the idea that it's about a guy who dies visiting his girlfriend, as soon as I heard this theory it completely makes sense.
I have always struggled, like everyone else it seems, to decipher the "Over me my free-fall baby" line. It never sounds right when you're listening to the track and reading it. You get the same couple of guesses being regurgitated year after year even though it's nearly 25 years old. The other guess I see a lot is "over me my fruitful life, babe". Again doesn't really make sense and doesn't really sound like what he's singing.
However after finally hearing it live a few years ago at heaton park I think I finally heard what he's singing:
"Over me bright blue fork lightning"
I've listened to live versions and I think this is the correct.
Anyway the song is mint, and the last verses are perfection with the guitar:
I can feel a hurricane when you shout: "I should be safe forever in your arms"
