I think its a criticism of religion too, but could easily fit atheism as well.
My brother is a vocal anti-Christian critic thinking he's saving them the grief of disappointment, $$$, and ignorance he had when he was in the priesthood.
His face is definitely towards the sky with arrogance betraying his closest friend (Jesus) with no moment lost, no consequence (unless Jesus is true). His deception (imitation/fabrication/counterfeit/ruse/ignorance/mistake/washing the color away) could be his atheism (if he's wrong).
