I dunno... I think this whole song is about setting examples. I think he's stating that he doesn't need anyone to set an example for him because he's trying his best at being a good person. The news of wars and junk, it saddens him. His mother, his father, his brothers, lovers... everyone is just doing their best. He wants to "sleep forever" because he doesn't think that people should look up to him and he shouldn't look up to anyone else to set an example, he wants the world to not need that example... no longer needing someone to look up to since we should all just be doing our best at being good people.
