Sounds like the writer is describing a relationship in which the guy is constantly forgiven even though he is lying nearly obviously, or at least obvious to the writer. A "Stool Pigeon" is an alibi.

My Interpretation

@madshell i think this is a very close interpretation, though I'd also add that the verse about hiding the cross he bears seems to allude to this swindler guy having more to him than meets the eye, maybe a past trauma that makes him act out toward his lover repeatedly, then ask forgiveness. Like maybe a diagnosable anger issue or history of abandonment issues that manifests in lashing out, and to those who don't know him closely lile she does, he's just a swindler.
