To me, the minor tone of the song, the monotone voice rhythm, the first two lines (half of the lyrics!) being negative ("I don't love anyone", "no") clearly mean that the narrator is not actually happy.
My personal interpretation is of an ironic meaning: a man who doesn't love anyone might claim he's happy but actually he's not. We all need love and that's what makes us happy.
