my interpretation is that, it's about an unrequited love that he is holding on to. he has nothing with out this love. but the person doesn't even know him. his insecurities are taking him over, and the love is the only thing he can hold on to without being totally overwhelmed in his mind. he wants to be free from his other side and maybe suicidal thoughts. he wants this love and to be known. he knows this love is the only thing he has. without the person he is a goner.
