The meaning behind the song is very strong ... I think it is about civil rights (especially the disparity between races ... particular in the USA). The start of the song suggests it is about a war in general, but the title and second part of the song suggest that it isn't a general war, but a "war" where we need to fight for equal rights and those that discriminate.
