I like this song way too much.

So now let's ruin the message of it by overanalyzing it! :)

Oh don't you dare look back Just keep your eyes on me. I said your holding back, She said shut up and dance with me! This woman is my destiny She said oh oh oh Shut up and dance with me

Obviously the young man has a problem with overthinking things and regretting the past, and he encounters a girl without that particular problem (don't you dare look back, just keep your eyes on me...)

We were victims of the night, The chemical, physical, kryptonite Helpless to the bass and the fading light Oh we were born to get together, Born to get together....

A backless dress and some beat up sneaks, My disco tec Juliet teenage dream. I felt it in my chest as she looked at me. I knew we were born to be together, Born to be together...

Deep in her eyes, I think I see the future. I realize this is my last chance.....

Obviously it all feels predestined to him, and he goes on about THAT in his overwrought way. I kind of doubt she's thought about it that much.

She took my arm, I don't know how it happened. We took the floor and she said

Oh don't you dare look back Just keep your eyes on me. I said your holding back, She said shut up and dance with me! This woman is my destiny She said oh oh oh Shut up and dance with me

So she's taken control of him and the situation. He wants to discuss the wonder of the whole thing, and she just wants to dance/enjoy the moment.

Perhaps she knows this isn't a permanent thing? Or maybe it is, so she wants to enjoy it together, without going over the regrets of the past?

@42 steps Good thing you didn't over analyse it!
