This song is about a Vietnam Army Veteran Recruiting at a college campus to sell students on the notion of joining the Army during the Vietnam War. The students point out the flaws in the Recruiter's logic starting with his zeal that was bought by shiny metals and promotions and military brainwashing. The recruiter believes the men over there are brave because they are fighting for something they believe in when the exact opposite is true i.e. it is braver to not to fight because one has to go against public opinion ... "I see your wings man ... but can you fly" sums up the truth i.e. having a Colonel's rank (i.e. an eagle with its wings open) A shiny bird logo however, doesn't reveal the truth of a man's righteousness or character.
