The Operation Lyrics

I could be wrong (but couldn't we all) but, my interpretation is that the song is about somebody who has suddenly become very religious, and acts better than the rest of them due to the sudden change.

"You fight with your right hand And caress with your left hand." The right/left hand thing is a biblical allusion, with the right hand being seen as good/correct and the left being seen as bad/incorrect. While using biblical allusion, Moz is saying at heart the person is a feisty-fighting person, but is faking being some super nice, correct, morally superior person.

I don't mean to rag on religion or anything, but being from a strictly religious family I can really see it in the song. The friend who was once just an average, fun person to be around became some 'morally superior, better than that' person.

"With a tear that's a mile wide In the kite that you're flying " That's Moz saying everybody can see through what the person is pretending to be.

"You don't look the same You're just not the same, no way You say pleasant things and There is no need to" Morrissey is just pointing out how artificial they're being.

As I said, I don't mean to be offensive or rebellious!

My Interpretation

@JeffryFeffry I agree its a commentary on change but its got nothing to do with religion imo
