Like many other of his songs, Scott talks about how his past has been ruinous and he's taken some major stumbles. Instead of trying to live his life quietly letting his mistakes slide under the rug, he wants to accept what he did and gain back what he's lost.

Being a Christian, he found much hope in going to church, hence "stain glass windows" and expressing his love for God. Personally I'm not religious, but I know that faith can be a strong motivator in changing lives. When Scott had reached the ultimate low point of his life ("What I thought was all of my life story"), he confided in the one place he found holy, and became spiritually redeemed.

Now with better intentions and a new way of life, Scott decides to make up now all the time he lost in the past when he made mistakes. He now finds hope and is trying to regain control of his future by generating closure with his family, friends, and within himself.

Of course, turning your life around may seem daunting, but for Scott he is more anxious than anything. In essence, he is "dying to live".

This song not only applies to the scenario Scott was in, but also for anyone else who is trying to atone for their past. Everyone makes mistakes, but we must all accept the fact that they were made, and use our lives wisely to cover anything we may have missed in our stumbles. It may be difficult at times and be utterly depressing, the perspective gained from surviving your own version of hell is worth the pain. And remember, no matter the situation, there is always hope.
