Ghosts

This song is very meaningful to me. The speaker refers to ghosts as a representation of the memories of the person he fell in love. He knows these memories are dead weight and nothing more than ghosts that haunt him. Living in constant denial of this, the speaker fights against that realization and constantly cherishes these "ghosts" (memories) and tries to see them as living moments because it's the only way to hold on to that love he is so afraid to lose. Everyday he replays these memories in his head in order to not forget, despite he sees them further and further away as time progresses. The speaker is clearly heart broken that he was just another "fling" another page in her journal. He feels used and resents her, but yet can't comprehend why he holds such a steadfast love for her. Above all though, what haunts him is that she didn't feel the slightest pain when she left him and this is what doesn't allow him to move on; how he could fall in love with such a cold human being? He gave up everything for her and all she gave him was darkness
