In my opinion it's about how far we've come with technology and how much we rely on it and try to keep up to date with the newest things, and how far we've drifted from each other as human beings because of the technology. I feel that it is also about corporate control, our nation is consumer based, they watch us spend more and more for slight upgrades to products, they know you'll pay so they keep on doing it.
I feel it is also about the bail outs of that time.
