First of all, one word in the lyrics written above is wrong. The word Decay is wrong it should read " I can see reminders of a past Decade. This makes more sense, Since the song is about a couple who attended the Woodstock festival in 1969. Either Tom or Brad Delp wrote the lyrics. I strongly believe the song is about Tom or Brad and a girl he knew by the name of Hollyann and their Woodstock experience together. It could be Brad's lyrics as well. I'm in favor of Brad, I guess because he's the one singing it. And he looked more of the Hippie type that would have gone to Woodstock while Tom strikes me as one who was in College studying and inventing.
"In a dawning age we had so much to say" Is referencing the late sixties hippie- freedom movement.
"The wind in your long hair blowin' as we stood for the band" refers to them standing on the grounds at Woodstock as one of the bands performing took the stage.
"A million hands gave the sign" refers to the Peace sign. There were estimated 500 thousand people at Woodstock, 500K Times two, it's a no-brainer folks. This sign became the symbol of the Make Peace not War movement that fueled the Hippie, freedom, love, flower power era.
So many more parts of this song strongly reference the Late Sixties and Woodstock.
This is a beautiful song, My favorite part is when Brad sings Hollyann at center of the song and sustains the note into the stratosphere, absolutely Stellar! What an amazing voice Brad Delp had. R.I.P. brother.
There is my two cents. agree or disagree?
