Here is yet another interpretation. This one has a lot to do with my personal experiences, but maybe this song is a mix of what he feels inside and what he wishes he could say to an ex (romantic partner or friend in general). Perhaps he tried really hard to satisfy this girl and she completely took him for granted. Maybe the parts about "she said" were him reflecting bitterly on how she treated him and the rest is kind of a "I don't need you" type thing. in the beginning its more him feeling sad and lost, but the chorus and bridge seem to be about defending himself and saying that despite what she thinks, he'll be just fine without her. It is kind of odd how it switches back and forth between vulnerable and defensive though, because it goes from "I'm already gone, I'm already something to someone..." (I don't need you) to "to someone that I don't know... when will I know?" (I'm hurt and long for someone) and in the verse "from here on out, i'm doing things for me." and then "i'm not the type for life alone, i need someone." which is why I feel like it's every detail that's running through his mind, the defensive and the vulnerable.
