I love how both their albums are based around similar themes. Corruption. Conforming. Global political issues.
The last stanza resonates with me particularly:
"The path they gave you is worn by the countless enslaved, confused and alone
Hopelessly gazing through that hole they're fed their only light"
Kim has stated that the album is dark (most especially this song) because he feels we are inadvertently responsible for the things happening on TV, he connects our apathy with what is happening in the world.
I can see that point of view very clearly in this song having read that.
"Show me where the progress exists
Without the protest"
People get fired up about certain issues but do they actually DO anything about them? No. We all turn a blind eye. We all think it's somebody else's problem to solve. Nobody takes responsibility.
"Programmed to obey
We are the slaves who object in silence
The herd"
We follow the crowd. 'Object in silence' - how true that is! Kim, you're a genius.
