I used to think this song was about a romantic relationship... but now I think it is about a relationship with God...

-- Friend is not a romantic term, but reminds me of the hymn "what a friend we have in Jesus"
I am not sure what the original intent of the song was, but there are so many parallels to hymns and it just doesn't seem to fit a romantic relationship
