My thoughts are this song have nothing to do with lovers but personal strife and pain and feeling like your "thoughts get twisted in knots."
I feel like that "alone part" is about feeling alone in your hurt. Other people aren't there to comfort you when you feel most in pain.
A lot of Longwave songs seemed to being in pain and not being understood like "Wake Me When It's Over."
Just my two cents. :)
